Hello from Napa Valley California. My name is Wendy Ward and I am a
Cultural Heritage Commissioner for the City of Napa.
From the list server it appears that someone referred Mr. Phil Joy as a
historic house mover in Northern California. That indeed is true as he
will be attempting to move, for the second time (that in itself is a
story!) a 130 year old home from Napa to Benecia. The process is
perhaps more interesting than the home itself, a conservative looking,
run down Victorian home.
The process involves putting the home up on support rails, towing it
(criss-crossing lanes multiple times to avoid stop lights, medians and
power lines) by truck through town and over a bridge approximately 1
mile to a river launch. There it will be slid it down a river bank on
aluminum rails to an awaiting barge where it begins a barge journey
down river to small historic community called Benecia. Once there the
process begins again to get it up to the historic downtown
neighborhood.
I have a lot more background information if you are interested but you
will have to act quickly as Phil wants to complete this soon. (he first
tried sevceral weeks ago and was turned away due to permit problems.)
Do take a look at the youtube clip as it will be similar but of a
smaller home. The house on youtube is a very large, ornate home he also
moved from Napa not long ago.
Please do give me call soon so we might capture this event best.
Kind regards,
Wendy Ward
