[Calclg-l] FW: [ncshpo-listserv] Appropriations Update

Jan, OHP passes through 10% of its federal allocation to CLGs through
CLG grants such as the one San Juan Bautista has received to do a
National Register nomination. So if OHP's allocation goes up, then the
pass through for CLG grants will be proportionally increased which means
there will be more money to distribute through CLG grants.

Marie,
This is good news and we'd like to look into ways of using these funds.
Will any of these funds be tied to a Certified Housing Element - it seem
more and more of the grant and loan programs are requiring a State
Certified Housing Element.
P.S. Have you heard any news about the Distinctive Destinations winners
yet?

More money for SHPOs means more money for CLG grants!
Breaking news (DEC 19) on FY08 Appropriations.................
This evening the House voted to accept a Senate amendment (Iraq funding)
which was the final piece in passing the FY08 Omnibus Appropriations
bill, H.R.2764. The Senate approved the bill yesterday by a vote of
76-17. The bill must now be signed by the President which will likely
happen yet this week. The President has stated he will not veto the
bill.
The spending package contains 11 appropriation bills, including the
Interior, Environment and Related Agencies bill. Given the constraints,
historic preservation programs fared well when compared to others in the
Interior bill. Below are the Historic Preservation Fund individual
program amounts:
State Historic Preservation Offices - $39.37 million, an
increase of $2.159 million over FY07
Tribal Historic Preservation Offices - $6.39 million, an
increase of $953,000 over FY07
Save America's Treasures - $24.6 million, an
increase of $16.56 million over FY07 *
Preserve America - $7.3
million, an increase of $2.45 million over FY07 (funds will come out of
the National Recreation and Preservation Fund)
*The FY07 CR eliminated all earmarks and only funded the SAT competitive
grant program. At $8 million.
The House and Senate will officially recess on Thursday. The House will
return to session on January 15th and the Senate on January 22nd.
Happy Holidays!
