Call for Papers

California Council for the Promotion of History

28th Annual Conference

October 23-25, 2008

San Luis Obispo, California

Many Californias, Many Histories

If you care about the past, please join us in San Luis
Obispo on October 23-25, 2008 for the 28th annual conference of the
California Council for the Promotion of History (CCPH). You'll have an
opportunity to share your historical interests with others, and to
discover what's new and exciting in California history.

This year's conference theme, Many Californias, Many
Histories, is spacious enough to embrace the full diversity of peoples,
places and events that together make up the history of our state. We
especially welcome presentations that interpret local episodes in their
broader state, national, and international contexts.

Proposals may be for individual papers or full sessions,
panels, or round table discussions (with at least three presenters).
CCPH is also open to more venturesome formats, including performance.
Individual presentations are scheduled for 20 minutes, full sessions 90
minutes, with time reserved for comments from the audience. CCPH
program coordinators may be able to help you develop symposia or
workshops that dovetail with several planned mobile sessions that will
explore local and regional historical themes at various sites throughout
San Luis Obispo County.

As always, CCPH welcomes presentations by students, new
professionals, and local historians. A limited number of conference
stipends may be available for students and new professionals. Look for
stipend information in May on the CCPH web site, <mailto:ccph at csus.edu>
www.csus.edu/org/ccph <http://www.csus.edu/org/ccph> . The conference
program will be online in mid-August. For further information, please
e-mail the CCPH program committee at ccphprogram at hotmail.com.

We hope you will join us in San Luis Obispo. Please submit
by email a 100 - 200-word abstract of your 20-minute individual
presentation, or 90-minute full session panel or roundtable session,
that includes your name (and names of all other presenters, if
applicable), your affiliation, contact information (including phone
number and e-mail), and any audio-visual needs. The deadline for
proposals is April 30, 2008.
