Colleagues: The Vernacular Architecture Forum will hold its annual conference here in Fresno May 7-10th. The VAF is a national organization of scholars, professionals and students interested in regional building, historic landscapes and cultural heritage. The 3 1/2 days includes plenary sessions, architectural tours and a full day of papers (Saturday May 10th). Our SHPO in fact will be the key speaker at the preservation roundtable late Saturday afternoon, talking about the California Historical Building Code. Several public events are underwritten by funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation: the Wednesday May 7th plenary talk with Gerald Haslam, the May 8th evening talk by John King, San Francisco Chronicle urban design critic; and the Presidential plenary session Saturday the 10th with Gray Brechin (on the New Deal) and Donna Graves (Japan towns in California).
Hope some of you can come on down ... or up!
For a copy of the registration packet, drop me a note and I will send it along....
