wow....I wish we would get more interest from people wanting to be listed.
What we get lately is many people with houses in our two historic districts complaining to the City Manager about our requirements for conformance with the Secretary of the Interior's standards. There are people who now think that since Vallejo is currently having financial problems and not enough staff, that we should be concentrating our efforts in other areas than regulating such details as what kind of windows can be installed on these houses!!

Our program in the City of San Diego is very active. We process 50-60 of these requests each year for the past several years and have over 100 requests waiting to be reviewed at this time, easily 18 months of work. We have 4 preservation planners at this time, all paid for by the General Fund. With all the other elements of our work program we still can't stay on top of the designation requests from property owners.

to add to my reply, I can say that we have only had one request in the 5 years that I have been here, and we did that one under the old fee schedule of $300.
looks like lots of you do these for free.
unfortunately, I don't think Vallejo can afford to do anything for free at this time. We are down to four planners, including the planning manager, and one of those planners is funded through a private developer. Not enough for a city of 122,000. Our Community Development director just left, and there may not be any funds to replace that position for 2008-2009.

This question came up recently. What do other jurisdictions charge for the review and staff time for an individual property to be reviewed and placed on the historic inventory?
