The Historic Preservation function is conducted by Planners, who meet the Secretary of the Interior's Qualifications, in the Urban Form Division of the City Planning & Community Investment Department (CPCI), City of San Diego. The Urban Form Division also includes Park Planning, Multiple Species Conservation Program and Urban Design. The Division is equivalent to the Community Planning and General Plan Divisions within the Department. The Department includes all Planning and Economic Development functions. Development permitting and reviews occur in the Development Services Department, which is part of the City Planning and Development business center, along with CPCI and Real Estate Assests, headed by a Deputy Chief Operating Officer.

Subject: [forum-l] Local Government Preservation Offices

Dear Forum members,

We are interested in getting feedback on how local preservation offices
(city/county governmental agencies) fit into the organizational
operations of local governments. We are specifically interested in info
relating to whether these offices are a separate division on equal
standing with others such as planning, community development,
engineering, building inspection, etc. and if they operate under a
larger "umbrella" department such as Department of Housing and Planning.
Sample organizational charts with a brief explanation would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
